Melissa and her bridesmaids, mother, and mother-in-law hung out in McPherson at Creative Hairlines to they get their hair and make-up done before heading to First Congregational Church in Hutchinson, Kansas. Melissa's beautician had done her hair for a long time and gave Melissa a gift consisting of a special mixed foundation.

While Tyffany and Netanya were documenting the ladies in McPherson Jeff was documenting Brian and the guys at Craig Allen's, a men's salon. Brian had his face wrapped in a hot towel, nails done and smoked a cigar in the cigar lounge with his future father-in-law, Greg. As the ladies arrived at the church they got to see their bouquets that included red Hawaiian Anthuriums as the main focus with a splash of lime green foliage. Melissa got ready in the same bride's room as her mom had exactly 34 years to the day of Melissa's wedding day.

Melissa had a beautiful Maggie Sottero wedding dress with cap sleeves and a floor length veil. The bridesmaids wore red strapless dresses with red and white polka dotted Betty Boop shoes. When we traveled to Kansas City to do Melissa and Brian's engagement session they invited us into their apartment and it was evident that Melissa loves Betty Boop so it was a bonus to find such shoes for her 6 bridesmaids to wear. Before the ceremony Melissa had some socks that said "Cold Feet" and she wanted to be sure she had a fun picture with them. Netanya and Tyffany had her go into the chapel, near the bride's room, and sit backwards in the pew with her feet propped up over the pew and shot back against the cross in the background. It made for a cute shot as you will see in the debut. Pastor Richard traveled from Colorado Springs to marry Melissa and Brian. Pastor Richard was Melissa's pastor as she was a little girl growing up and so Melissa was very honored to have him come perform the ceremony. After the wedding Melissa and Brian ushered their guests out of the pews before coming back to the front of the church for more pictures of the two of them, family and wedding party. Then it was time to head to Prairie Dunes Country Club for the reception.

We were able to grab a few pics of Melissa and Brian and the wedding party on the greens. The reception was absolutely gorgeous for guests to gather and have quite the fun time. The groom's cake consisted of a mountain and toy Jeeps amongst a forest of trees. It was definitely a surprise to guests when the DJ started playing "I'm too Sexy" and Melissa's dad, brother and friend started dancing taking their tuxedo coats off to reveal that they had white collared shirts with wild patterned sleeves underneath. It was one of many highlights that occurred. Before the end of the reception it was time for Brian to cut his groom's cake, the Best man even helped.

The newleyweds fed each-other smearing icing all over each other's faces. Brian knew then it would make for a great kiss with his new bride. He ran over and kissed Melissa sharing some of the icing that was on his face. Before leaving we had the chance to say, "See you in a month," to one of our future brides that was Melissa's maid-of-honor, Becky, who is getting married August 3, 2007.

We want to say that we had an absolute blast of a time and can't wait to see you guys again soon at Becky's wedding. And if things get sad or troubled just remember the turtle story. We love you guys and you are great!

Today started with Ashley getting her hair done 9 a.m. at Progressions Salon & Day Spa with her mom, six of her bridesmaids, and a friend who was a reader during the ceremony. Then they all piled into a white van to travel to the East side of town where they all got their make-up done. Once they arrived at Dillard's they all split up and went to different make-up counters. Ashley got hers done at the MAC Counter and others were at either the Clinique, Origins, or Prescriptives Counters. Then a little before noon we headed to the church where Adam arrived to get ready and Ashley showed up shortly after. As I waited I had a little time to grab a few shots of Ashley's beautiful, timeless dress she found at Reni's Bridal Boutique. As Ashley came in the bridal parlor a gift from Adam awaited her in a long skinny black jewelry box. It was a bracelet made of pearls with diamonds as the clasps he had picked out from Zales. Ashley's gift to Adam was a silver money clip from Tiffany's with his initials engraved on it.

Ashley and Adam's colors were bright red and lime green and their flowers were green Hydrangeas and orchids.

The ceremony was gorgeous with a foam backed white runner that lined the long aisle. Before guests were seated the runner was pinned in place and red and white petals were evenly dropped on either side of the runner.

Ashley's dad, Dave, escorted her down the aisle to give her away to Adam. Adam was all smiles to see his absolutely stunning bride for the first time. After the ceremony guests were handed a handful of white rose petals to shower over the couple as they headed through the parted sea of people to the white stretched Excursion limousine. The couple drove around the block and came back for more pictures with family and the two of them. Before heading to the reception they wanted pictures in a park and with urban brick buildings. We went to a park in Old Town to shoot and down an alley for some fun shots. Then one shot that Ashley definitely knew she wanted was the bridal party lined up walking towards the camera in the street. We were able to get out in the middle of Douglas street when cars weren't coming. When we came to the intersection the light turned green but we kept walking and they laughed and had a great time. This made for some really cool shots and probably got some laughs and smiles for the people in the cars as they waited. After the photo session it was time to head to the reception that was held at Adam's parents house in the country near Hillsboro, Kansas.

Everyone gathered under a huge white tent that overlooked a beautiful pond. As the evening got darker Ashley and Adam wanted pictures on Adam's Harley Davidson driving away. Deanna and Jason with Today for Tomorrow Videography had Adam rev his bike's engine to work into their video later. Then shortly after we heard a big boom that started the light show of fireworks that were shot off over the pond. Jeff got some killer shots of Ashley and Adam as they watched the fireworks.

Adam and Ashley, we want to thank you for allowing us to document your wedding as the "poppies" that we were nicknamed at the salon by the bridesmaids and was carried through the day. We had a great time and we hope you have a blast at the Sandal's Resort for your honeymoon. Take pictures because we want to see them when you get back!

Yesterday was a destination wedding in Dodge City, KS. We booked Kim and Kyle at a Bridal Fair in Wichita, KS at Century II little over a year and half ago. They picked their wedding date to be June 16 because it was their anniversary for being together as a couple. Yesterday marked their four years of being together. The wedding was very pretty with turquoise and lime green as their main colors with a splash of pumpkin orange and canary yellow used in the flowers. Kim's dress was cream with gold stitching on the boddess and the side split with lace and detailed stitching. Kim's mom, Tina, was a crafty creative mom who made all the bridesmaids, candle lighters dresses, and stitched jewels on Kim's train in the shape of a palm tree. This was something special that Tina did for Kim that Kim was greatly surprised to see when she helped Kim in her wedding dress. Palm trees was something that Kim loves. The theme was carried into the reception with paint cans punched out on the sides in the shape of palm trees and lit up palm trees in the corners of the reception hall that was held at the Dodge House Hotel. Tina had also made the wedding cake with sea shells that lined the outside of the cake and the tiered grooms cake which was chocolate with chocolate frosting and brilliant plump red strawberries. The ceremony was performed at The Lady of Guadeloupe Catholic Church and was a very beautiful occasion that brought family together from all over.

Thank you for booking us as your photographer and we wish you many happy years together.

"a snap shoot" reposted

Click Here to view the video.

Hey gang getting ready to fly out on Sunday. Yeah, crazy how fast time flies. Anyway if you're new to our blog or our site I've reposted an interview piece we used to have on our old site. The interview is titled "a snap shot" and a larger video can be found on our 'about us' page or by clicking here. Our friends over at Fat Cat did a great job putting the piece together and it has been great to send out to brides so they can learn more about how we started etc... A few weeks ago Brett shot his interview piece with Fat Cat and we will post it once the production work has been completed.

Well, back to getting an engagement session out before heading west to Dodge City for our wedding tomorrow. Then back here to catch the plane for California on Sunday morning. If anyone hasn't checked out the whyprophotos.com site/blog yet click here to take a look and let us know if you would like to post anything. Photogs are encouraged to submit photos and a write up to be featured on the site. If you have any questions feel free to email me at jeff@tjstudios.com.

Oh, one last thing. It looks like we will be able to announce our big announcement before years end??? Again for Tyff's parents and mine, sorry it's not grand kids yet.

Why Pro Photo Project

Greetings guys, sorry for the delay, Tyff has been sick for the past week and I've been taking a crash course in juggling everything.

Thanks again to Mike Colon for the post on his blog and everyone who has checked out our site.

To any photogs, I have a project I would like to get some feed back on. We've set up www.whyprophotos.com. The reason for the site is to let brides tell their stories of why they did or why they should have chosen a professional photographer. We would also like to post photos from pro photographers showing how pro photos are different and truly amazing. Let me know what you think of the idea or if you would like to submit anything to the site. The blog style site is currently up and running click here to check it out. We will post links to featured photogs and add them to an on going photographer list.

The site is a work in progress, but we think it will be a great way to give a voice to both brides and the pros on why pro photography is so important to any wedding.

Alia started her day 6.9.07 at Eric Fisher Salon West with her mom and her three bridesmaids. They then traveled to the East for make-up in Dillard's at the MAC Counter. Alia put on her dress at the church, Olivet Baptist. Allia's bridesmaids wore chocolate brown V-neck dresses and the flower-girl wore a white dress with a matching brown sash that tied in a bow. Alia and Chris had chose to see each other and got all the pictures done before the ceremony. At the beginning of the ceremony the couple had a slideshow of them to show to their guest before Alia came down the aisle. The slideshow consisted of baby pictures of Alia and Chris and it progressed with older pics of them up to now with the two of them together. After the ceremony Alia and Chris allotted time to have more pictures done of the two of them going around different locations in Old Town Wichita, KS. The reception was held at the Petroleum Club. The groom's cake was chocolate frosting with a KU Jayhawk on it. The food was chicken fingers, 7-layer dip, fruit, barbecue meatballs and kabobs. The kids had fun playing in the chocolate fountain throughout the evening. Before leaving that evening Alia changed into another dress to be sent away with her new groom as guests showered them with bubbles leaving the dance floor. As we were there it was nice to see two previous brides of ours. It was a fun time to document the wedding of Alia and Chris and see familiar faces like Stacy and Adam and Courtney and Andrew that we had documented in the previous years.

Thank you for allowing us to document your day.

Arta started her wedding day, 6.8.07, with her, her mom and David's mom going to the Clinque Counter in Von Maur for make-up. They, as ladies do, had fun getting all dolled up. While Arta's mom finished up with make-up, Arta and David's mom went to Fredrick's to buy a garter. Then she and her mom went together to get their hair done. David, his dad and Arta's dad went to Sea Dreams to pick up goldfish for the center pieces that were displayed at the reception. Guests had the option to take home a goldfish. The guys then went to Old Chicago where they joined in some fun with a game of pool. Before heading to Exploration Place they had one more stop to make at Susans to pick up the flowers. Afterwards, it was time to head and get ready and have the ceremony take place. The ceremony was held outside of Exploration Place on the patio that overlooks the Keeper of the Plains and cable bridges. The ceremony was small with her parents, the groom's parents and David's grandma and attendants sharing the day. Arta looked absolutely gorgeous in a simple but elegant strapless white wedding gown. David was dressed in a classic tan sleek suite with a burnt orange tie that went with his yellow with burnt orange edged calla lily as his boutonniere. Following the ceremony we took some group shots and then we were blessed to have a little over an hour and a half with Arta and David to go around to different locations in Old Town. The reception was held later that evening for friends to attend and to join in the celebration of Arta and David's union. Following the reception Arta and David were up for getting low light nighttime shots and then cool off in the fountains in front of the Old Town Warren Theatre.

Thank you for your spontaneity and adventurous character. The pictures
really reflect the passion that you guys have for one another.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates at D5

Just watched the below interview of Steve Jobbs from Apple and Bill Gates of Microsoft, it was interesting to see what both had to say about the future and past of technology and computers.

Also towards the end of the interview Steve Jobbs had a great point about what all successful people have in common. Answer, passion you've got to love what you do and have a passion for what your doing. Feel free to take a listen for yourself by using the below player.

I guess what I take from his words is that even during the hard times the reason we continue to do what we do is that we truly love what we do. As stated in the last post capturing that perfect moment, that lasting memory is worth it.

Reflection mixed in with craziness

Finally a real post :) Yes I know it has been a while since we've actually talked about what we've been up to and how things are going. Sorry for that...

As Tyff and I get ready to celebrate our 5 year anniversary this week it just blows my mind how far we've come in that time, both in business and our relationship. I still remember back in july of 2001 painting the paneling walls of my parents basement white and getting excited about having a studio area to take indoor portraits. Compared to then, where our shooting room was a 9 x 12 room with 8ft ceilings, furniture and props everywhere and today we have been blessed with starting to out grow our 2,100 sq ft studio with 14ft ceilings. Or even the fact that Tyff and I started our business together before we were married. I know I joke around with people that the reason we made it was due to neither one wanting to give up the equipment, but we really have an odd relationship and understanding for one another. I don't think most couples could or would choose to work together day in and day out in the same room as we do.

Reflecting back on life and the trials we go through can often leave us feeling extremely humble with what blessings we have be truly been given.

I'm working up some video I took on the day Tyff was able to quit working at the bank and hopefully will be able to get it posted soon as her 1yr anniversary of quitting happened back in April... ( Sorry Tyff ) click here to get a run do of what happened on her last day.

In the mean time as August grows near I'm reposting the video our friends at Fat Cat did for me on my last day of work. You rock Fat Cat!

Ok so what have we been up to. Well everyone here at the studio amazingly survived this past weekend. Tyff & I had a Friday wedding in Wichita and with 3 hrs of sleep headed an hour and half to Salina the next day to photograph her cousin Shelby's wedding. Images and debuts to follow in the next week. The weddings were both great and we got some amazing images. I think Brett is going to need a few days off as over the weekend as he had Friday, Saturday and Sunday weddings.

1st weekend of June:
5 weddings down,
7 more to go.
Over 50 weddings yet for the year.
Capturing that one single moment for our brides?
Worth it!

We'll be posting more soon but have to get back to editing.

June 2, 2007 was my cousin Shelby's wedding. With her only being three years behind me, (Tyff), her and I were really close growing up spending many summers together playing at the pool in Salina, Kansas.

Shelby and Chad have been together for three and a half years and really have had a solid friendship-based relationship. She got her hair done at The Hair Company Salon at 12:00 Noon. Then she headed back to the church, University Methodist Church close to Kansas Wesleyan University, to have Chad's cousin (Colby), put on her make-up and for Nat (Shelby's mom), to help put on Shelby's wedding dress. Shelby looked truly amazing! She is always about being comfortable, so her white flip flops were a perfect match to her personality.

Shelby and Chad made the ceremony very meaningful for both their parents and grandparents. They had the candle-lighters light 25 of the 50 candles that they had at the front of the church. The parents then went up and lit theirs and the grandparents finished up the remainder of 50. This also gave each one a chance to give a hug to the bride and the groom.

Afterwards they had guests line up to send them off in a red Oldsmobile Convertible. We were able to grab a few shots on the steps of the Masonic Temple, also. Then it was off to the party that was held in Grandma Leister's barn. They had HobKnob cater in the wonderful food by Nat's restaurant with baked beans, pasta salad, red potatoes, roast beef with barbecue, and pork. The Happy Crappy Beer mixed with a little of Whiskey, Ever Clear, lime and more kept the party alive and hopping!

We want to thank you for allowing us be a part of the wedding and document your special day. We wish you many happy years together. Chad, you know at times you are going to have to keep Shelb in line! Just kidding Shel Bell!

Nicole started her day at Sola Salons to get her hair done. Although we have been to many of the salons in Wichita, Sola was a new destination for us to document hair. Nicole hung out with her bridesmaids as they got their hair done as well. The stylist, Ray, was very good and fast. He rolled all the girl's hair in barrel curls and clipped them up. This gave them all a 40's hair style. Ray said with the weather being humid he would leave the girl's hair up till right before pictures and follow them to the church to let their hair down and spray with "Pantene" hairspray. Ray was fun and he made the girl's day very special. After the salon we headed to Nicole's house to pick up her dress and a few last minute details before heading to the church.

I, Tyffany, got the pleasure of meeting Peaches, a cross between a Pomeranian and Chihuahua. She was the most adorable little piece of fur ball you have ever seen. The girls had Jimmy John's sub sandwiches when they got to Blessed Sacrament. Then it was time to do last minute touch ups and for Nicole to go see Jason for the first time. So, Ashley, Nicole's sister, helped her with her make-up and Sally, Nicole's mom, helped her slip into her dress. Nicole looked stunning in her cream strapless dress with bead work throughout and she carried a bouquet of deep red roses and white Polar Star roses. She walked up behind Jason and tapped him on the shoulder for their first reveal. They both couldn't stop smiling. Sparks were definitely flying. Nicole got Jason a beer mug that said "Groom" on it for her wedding gift to him. We were able to grab a few shots outside before it started pouring rain. Nicole and Jason said that they were thrilled that when they heard it was going to rain because they love it when it rains. They didn't let it dampen their spirits.

The ceremony was beautiful. The bridesmaids wore light golden strapless dresses as they came down the aisle with their matching groomsmen. Following the ceremony the guests showered Nicole and Jason with lots of bubbles as they headed to a white stretched limo by Artistic Limousine. The reception was held at the Holiday Inn Select with a classic candlelight lit room.

Nicole and Jason we want to say thank you for letting us be part of your day. We really enjoyed documenting it from start to finish.
